a friend just described me as "a transhumanist twelve-year-old" and I feel way too called out

The fight is on! SESTA/FOSTA faces its first US constitutional challenge, filed Thursday by orgs Woodhull SFA, Human Rights Watch, Internet Archive, and individuals: a sex worker rights activist and a massage therapist, repped by EFF.

imagine if tech wasn't constantly fucking fighting over possession of users, and instead, was accepting that users have a right to choose their preferred UIs and frontends

.@Blender's videos on #YouTube have now come back, but they are also being told by Google/YT that they HAVE to monetise them. #Blender are considering refusing, which presumably would mean the videos being taken down again:

blender.org/media-exposure/you

Whatever they once stood for, #Google's aim now is exploiting their users' content for maximum profit.

If you don't want your videos to be exploited, it is important to switch to an independent alternative:

#DeleteYouTube

3 considerations for any political action:
1. If your action couldn't possibly have negative consequences for you, it is of no consequence
2. If your action requires media attention to have any impact, it has no impact.
3. Working in the realm of ideas and symbols is not worthless, but working exclusively at that level is.

Just to reiterate because it's not obvious from the excerpt, Smyte is some kind of anti-harrassment API that a lot of large platforms (like npm and zendesk) were using. Twitter acquired it as a solution to their own harrassment problem and immediately shut everyone's access off, even though many companies had multi-year contracts with them! 😂

Not only does Twitter have harrassment issues on its own platform, now they're exporting these issues to other platforms too!

How did nobody on their board see this PR disaster coming. The incompetence keeps surprising me.

Idle thought:

Cyberpunk narratives that paint body-modification as a negative thing because of "loss of humanity", are subtly transphobic because they associate essence with the physical body. That to modify the body is to negatively modify the mind.

It also presumes that to become less human is to also become less empathetic, whereas a person should be allowed to be non-human, or maybe even not a "person", without losing empathy and sapience.
